Connect Paddle, Lemon Squeezy or Chargebee
Grizzlee can record orders from Paddle, Lemon Squeezy and Chargebee without a developer. Only owners and admins can connect a provider. You work in two windows: the Grizzlee form and your provider's dashboard. Keep the Grizzlee form open until you save it, because the address it shows starts working only then.
Connect Paddle
- In Grizzlee, open Settings, then Connections, and choose Connect provider. Under Provider, pick Paddle.
- Copy the Provider webhook URL.
- In Paddle, open Notifications under Developer tools and add a new destination. Paste the address, then select
transaction.completed,adjustment.createdandadjustment.updated. Save it. - Paddle shows a secret key for the destination. Copy it into Paddle secret key in Grizzlee.
- In Paddle, open Authentication under Developer tools and create an API key. Give it only the Adjustments read permission. Paste it into Paddle API key.
- Choose Save connection. Grizzlee checks the API key and tells you if Paddle refuses it.
Connect Lemon Squeezy
- In Grizzlee, open Settings, then Connections, and choose Connect provider. Under Provider, pick Lemon Squeezy.
- Copy the Provider webhook URL.
- In Lemon Squeezy, open Settings, then Webhooks, and add a webhook. Paste the address as the callback URL. Type a signing secret of 6 to 40 characters and write it down. Select
order_created,order_refunded,subscription_payment_successandsubscription_payment_refunded, then save. - Paste the same secret into Webhook signing secret in Grizzlee and choose Save connection.
Lemon Squeezy doesn't need an API key. Stripe owns Lemon Squeezy and plans to move its stores to Stripe Managed Payments. Until then, the connection works as described here.
Connect Chargebee
- In Grizzlee, open Settings, then Connections, and choose Connect provider. Under Provider, pick Chargebee.
- Enter your Chargebee site. It's the part of your Chargebee address before
.chargebee.com, such asacmeoracme-test. - Copy the Provider webhook URL, the User name and the Password Grizzlee shows.
- In Chargebee, open Settings, then Configure Chargebee, then API Keys and Webhooks. On the Webhooks tab, add a webhook and paste the address. Turn on basic authentication and paste the user name and password.
- Under the events to send, pick
payment_succeeded,payment_refunded,credit_note_created,credit_note_updatedandcredit_note_deleted. Save the webhook. - On the API Keys tab, create a read-only key. Paste it into Chargebee API key in Grizzlee and choose Save connection.
Get the referral to checkout
The connection tells Grizzlee about payments. To credit a partner, the payment also has to carry the referral. The website script does this for you on two kinds of checkout:
- Lemon Squeezy checkout links and buttons on your website.
- Paddle checkout buttons on your website that use the
paddle_buttonclass.
If your website opens the Paddle checkout from its own code, or you sell through Chargebee, your developer adds the referral to the checkout. Send them the setup guide.
Using Chargebee and Stripe together
Chargebee often charges cards through Stripe. If you connect both, the same payment can reach Grizzlee twice, and Connections shows a warning. Grizzlee waits up to an hour for Chargebee before it records a Stripe payment, because the Chargebee payment carries the referral. When Chargebee names the Stripe payment, the Stripe copy shows "already recorded this payment" in Incoming events. Stripe payments that don't go through Chargebee show up to an hour late. If your Stripe account takes no other payments, choose Disable on the Stripe connection. Otherwise, check your first few orders for duplicates.
What partners earn
Rewards use what the customer paid after discounts and before tax. Paddle and Lemon Squeezy add tax to their totals, and Grizzlee takes it back out. Paddle's own fee isn't taken off. Subscription renewals count as new orders from the same customer, so programs that reward repeat purchases keep paying.
Refunds made in the provider reduce rewards to the cent. Grizzlee keeps the original earning and records the change, as it does for any refund.
Test before you launch
Use a separate Grizzlee company with Paddle's sandbox, Lemon Squeezy's test mode or your Chargebee test site. Test events become real orders and rewards in whichever company receives them. Make a purchase through a partner's link, refund part of it, then open Developers and the Events tab. Incoming events lists each event. Choose Retry after you fix a problem.
Limits
- Orders must be in your company's currency. Paddle shows local prices by default, so limit your Paddle checkout to that currency. An order in another currency waits under Incoming events.
- Partner promo codes work only with Stripe and Shopify.
- Finding a referred customer by email works only with Stripe.
